The Oxford Art Factory are pleased to announce that we have installed a proper band PA in the gallery bar, and plan to break it in with a new weekly Wednesday night – YELLOW BRICK ROAD.

YBR showcases up and coming bands that may not have had many opportunities to play at established venues. We’re aiming at bands who can draw approximately two garage loads of people to a gig, to give them a chance to build up their profile and fan base, and give their careers a good nudge along the way to the stage where they’re headlining their own shows in the main room at OAF. We know that there’s a world of talent out there waiting for an opportunity to be heard, and we have some very exciting acts planned for the coming months.

For the punters, entry is free and the booze is cheap ($4 beers and $5 spirits!), which is a pretty strong incentive to get out on a Wednesday night. If you need another good reason, one of our favourites is the sheer joy of seeing a band play a house party style gig. Band on the floor, so close you can smell them, and the dance floor at risk of intrusion by rogue band members. We love the electricity of a band playing in an intimate space, and we reckon you should get along and experience it for yourself.

The next YBR is on Wednesday 25th February, and features Sydney indie darlings, The Spirits.

Summer Tones is a veritable banquet of super talented artists, featuring:

- the ever-incredible Dan Deacon and all the manic mayhem of his super fun, audience participation performance art;

- the magical High Places, aka Mary Pearson and Rob Barber whose mishmash of underground pop and world beat is at the forefront of a new American psychedelia;

- the charming and well-travelled Lawrence Arabia, alias pop genius James Milne of New Zealand origin with his cracking four piece band;

- the Australian Music Prize - shortlisted Beaches, in top form after playing All Tomorrows Parties, Big Day Out, Laneway and Meredith festivals;

- Melbourne's favourite short wave synth pop wizard Mark Barrage to open proceedings with a bang;

- and DJ Berko between bands to make you feel inexplicably warm & happy as the evening goes along.

TAME IMPALA ANNOUNCE ‘SKELETON TIGER’ NATIONAL TOUR

The near-mythical wonderbeast that is Perth 3-piece Tame Impala will roar across Australia this February 09 for their first fully fledged headline dates.

With a full flask of new unheard tunes to plunder, this national gallop will be their last before boarding a plane abroad to set the ears of foreigners on fire in March.

Late last year the winsome spirits behind Tame Impala, Kevin Parker (guitar and vocals), Dominic Simper (bass guitar) and Jay Watson (drums and vocals) released their hugely successful debut EP in a fury of psyched-up fuzz and tumbling rock.

From the single Desire Be Desire Go’s charmingly sloppy rhythms and wiggy guitar to Half Full Glass Of Wine’s half-speed, double-riffing magic to the new radio stormer & live show favourite Skeleton Tiger.

With its chiming guitar riff and deep, explorative breakdowns, Skeleton Tiger is a downright spiritual experience, leaving the listener in a state of sonic weightlessness.

Bondi Openair is back with sparkling sunsets, live music, and films under the summer stars. This Summer's program is truly eclectic, listing recent Golden Globe winners Benjamin Button, Vicky Christna, Slumdog, alongside European Festival favourites, surf and environmental docos, classics like Dirty Dancing and Sound of Music along with Czech cult classic.

Each night Bondi Openair is joined by exciting acoustic bands and solo artists playing original live music from 7pm. A fully-licensed bar and affordable festival food complete the summer sunset vibe.

Our good friends at Bondi Openair have given us 20 double passes to the March 5 screening of Cohen brothers gem, 'Burn After Reading' to give away to fans of the OAF.

The Oxford Art Factory is looking for new DJs with innovative taste in music. We are on the look out for real bedroom bangers, DJs who have had little or no experience playing in front of a crowd.

We want the bedroom to come to the Oxford Art Factory, we want to witness the jams that go down in the privacy of your own homes. The Oxford Art Factory loves new music, and old music, and hearing old music played in a way that makes it feel new. We're not hung up on genres or technical wizardry, we're just after your premium jams.

Damn Arms are a band from Melbourne, Australia that emerged in mid 2005 out of the ashes of SNAP! CRAKK!.

Named after a comment by cartoon character Fry in Futurama, the indie rock outfit was formed by Yama Indra (Vocals/Synth), Tim Sullivan (Vocals/Bass) and former members Ben Browning (Guitar) and Simon Parker (Drums).

After the change in the band their sound evolved from an electro-punk rock to a synth-rock driven sound.

WMMB present tactile performances aiming to challenge audiences in a constant pursuit for perspective. Embodying hyper-realities and violent truths, the group inspires, undresses and ravages the world that too many have become accustmed to.

WMMB celebrates the ugly to realize the beautiful and celebrates the beautiful to re-define our ugly.

The Laneway Festival loves Canadian indie, so we invited BORN RUFFIANS along to the party. The trio made waves at this year’s SXSW with their terrific live show and backed up their promise with Red Yellow Blue, a ripping, taut stomper of a record that packs a punch with its muscular instrumentation, witty lyrics and understated production. Oxford Art Factory are set to ring in the new year in style with the best of the French! 2008 has been an amazing year for the venue, who have recently passed their first birthday, won a bunch of awards from industry types and the public alike, thrown a pile of killer parties, and hosted a dizzying array of talented acts – it seems fitting to say goodbye to the year with a bang. It is with great pleasure that we announce that we are teaming up with everyone’s favourite label Ed Banger Records to celebrate New Year’s Eve, with Busy P and DJ Mehdi headlining a party that we anticipate will not be easily forgotten.

The Parisian label de jour, Ed Banger Records was founded by Pedro Winter in 2002, and has quickly found itself on the ‘best of’ lists of the worlds top tastemakers. With a broad stable of talent, home to artists such as Justice, Sebastian, Uffie and Mr Oizo, the Ed Banger crew has left an indelible mark on the music scene of the 2000s. Encompassing not only music, but fashion, design and attitude, Ed Banger no longer represents a musical genre, it represents a lifestyle.

Born James Choules in London 1969, SheOne has been emptying spray cans and making graffiti for over 20 years. Sidelining the usual multicoloured pictorial approach to graffiti painting he instead to focuses on the visual language of writing and the expressive possibilities of the name as a subject.

His approach to image making is to re-render abstracted hand drawn typography. Hip, data injected splats, overspray and accurate spills relay an emotional slang mapped out in highly personal shorthand.

In recent years he has managed to successfully translate the energy and scale of illegal street paintings into the well lit confines of the gallery, creating international site specific installations and exhibitions and having recently performed a live painting show at the Tate Modern, while simultaneously forging a subtle invasion into the fashion world through collaboration, self branded products and one-off pieces.

NYC party DJ and producer Cousin Cole is touring on the success of his ‘Tambourine Dream’ mixtape and remix project – a body of work that turned the business on its ear with an unexpected, yet evocative, blend of folk, psyche and indie, switching a new generation of party people on to these sounds with souped up reworks of Jose Gonzales, Joanna Newsom, Nico, Neil Young, John Lennon, Feist and a dozen other classics.

Cousin Cole stole the hearts and feet of clubbers worldwide with his ‘Crank Dat’ Soulja Boy remix last year, and at the same time fraternized with the mainstream with his cut programmed high rotation Hot 97 in NYC and Power 106 in LA, and still today played before Toronto Raptors basketball games.

Labelled the 2008 ‘blog king’, a quick trawl of the blogs gives up close on 100 results that include Cole’s exclusive edits of tracks by Wale, Peter Bjorn & John, R Kelly and The Killers, plus his banging rework of DJ Kool’s ’96 hit ‘Let Me Clear My Throat’. These efforts sit alongside 12”s like the 'Ruffle Yo Featherz' and 'Tougher Than Featherz' EPs on his own Flagrant Fowl label, remixes of Bird Peterson and releases on Baltimore label Flamin' Hotz.

C-90 is an exhibition by Sydney artist and curator Mark Drew, of cassette tape imagery via canvas, sculpture and illustrative print media.

The works in this show have been developed from a large scale mural painted at Oxford Art Factory in February of this year, of his teenage collection of cassette tape spines.

"in a time of MP3 data, the imagery C-90 deals with is quite emotive, recalling the graphic side of personal music collections".

Drew has been behind the scenes of many local art shows, as the co-owner of China Heights gallery. C-90 is his first major solo show, opening at Palmer Projects 6pm, Thursday, 9th October 2008 and will then continue daily up until October 15th.

BOY 8-BIT: Named after the 8-bit samples he used to use to produce records on his Amiga computer, David Morris has come a long way from these simple, nerdy beginnings. Having built a reputation through solid party remixes for artists as diverse as The Black Ghosts, Burial, Mika, Chromeo and Armand Van Helden and his distinctive sound that combines chopped-up vocals with heavy bass and breakbeats Boy 8-Bit is regarded as one of the finest party-starters around today.

We were very excited to announce an intimate (but loud) evening with Something For Kate., and then it sold out! Those of you who missed out can smile again, because we're now announcing a second show.

SFK will play two rare small club show in Sydney at The Oxford Art Factory, Darlinghurst on Friday July 18th and Saturday July 19th. While deep in the midst of writing his solo album, frontman Paul Dempsey will take a break to play this special show with the band - one of the very few SFK interstate shows for the year.
