NYC party DJ and producer Cousin Cole is touring on the success of his ‘Tambourine Dream’ mixtape and remix project – a body of work that turned the business on its ear with an unexpected, yet evocative, blend of folk, psyche and indie, switching a new generation of party people on to these sounds with souped up reworks of Jose Gonzales, Joanna Newsom, Nico, Neil Young, John Lennon, Feist and a dozen other classics.
Cousin Cole stole the hearts and feet of clubbers worldwide with his ‘Crank Dat’ Soulja Boy remix last year, and at the same time fraternized with the mainstream with his cut programmed high rotation Hot 97 in NYC and Power 106 in LA, and still today played before Toronto Raptors basketball games.
Labelled the 2008 ‘blog king’, a quick trawl of the blogs gives up close on 100 results that include Cole’s exclusive edits of tracks by Wale, Peter Bjorn & John, R Kelly and The Killers, plus his banging rework of DJ Kool’s ’96 hit ‘Let Me Clear My Throat’. These efforts sit alongside 12”s like the 'Ruffle Yo Featherz' and 'Tougher Than Featherz' EPs on his own Flagrant Fowl label, remixes of Bird Peterson and releases on Baltimore label Flamin' Hotz.
Earmarked as the next big cross-over producer, his rowdy DJ sets follow suite – kicking it with all things funk, Bmore, new wave, electro and rock!

ROCKIN AND SWINGIN.
When the “Hip Crowd” headed into town for a Rockin’/Swingin’ night out at the weekend, Saturday night was “Oxford Street Night”. Sunday night would come and – NOTHING! All that has changed with the launch of “Rockin’ and Swingin’ at The Oxford Art Factory”, a monthly gig planned for the last Sunday of each month. This night will provide quality Rockabilly and Swing bands in the salubrious surroundings of one of Oxford Street’s jewels, The Oxford Art Factory.
Presented by the notable Sydney DJ duo of Limpin’ Jimmy and The Swingin’ Kitten, this promises to be a monthly event worth looking forward to. The Velvet Set are kicking off the opening night on Sunday 26th October with their energetic swing style.

C-90.
C-90 is an exhibition by Sydney artist and curator Mark Drew, of
cassette tape imagery via canvas, sculpture and illustrative print media.
The works in this show have been developed from a large scale mural
painted at Oxford Art Factory in February of this year, of his teenage
collection of cassette tape spines.
"in a time of MP3 data, the imagery C-90 deals with is quite emotive,
recalling the graphic side of personal music collections".
Drew has been behind the scenes of many local art shows, as the co-owner
of China Heights gallery. C-90 is his first major solo show, opening at
Palmer Projects 6pm, Thursday, 9th October 2008 and will then continue
daily up until October 15th.

The October 2008 wall at the Oxford Art Factory comes from artist Scott Lowe. Drawing on powerful sentiment from his last show, 'Foreplay', Lowe's
ongoing study of human imperfections is an assertion against the unforgivable notion that all things beautiful in humans should be flawless.
The opening party is at OAF's Art After Dark bar on Friday 3rd October, from 9pm - late.

SFK will play two rare small club show in Sydney at The Oxford Art Factory,
Darlinghurst on Friday July 18th and Saturday July 19th. While deep in the midst of writing his solo
album, frontman Paul Dempsey will take a break to play this special show with
the band - one of the very few SFK interstate shows for the year.

Jay Z headlining 2008's Glastonbury festival has been a
bone of much contention, with Oasis' Noel Gallagher being one of the loudest
voices of dissent.
"I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong." stated Gallagher, and
Jay Z's response has been to open his Glasto set with the Oasis song, Wonderwall.
Dude is so hilarious, we're happy to overlook the flip flops with socks.

when we're officially closed. Recently, Henry Rollins was interviewed for
Movie Juice (a locally produced show on the Movie Network). That's him on the couch under the very bright light.
We have also recently played host to a taping for Australia's
next top model.
