LYRICS BORN.
One of the most critically acclaimed and best-selling independent hip-hop artists of this era, Lyrics Born is no stranger to Australian audiences! He knows what they want and brings it bigger and better each and every time
On tour for The Falls Festival and Field Day, this is the only chance to see Lyrics Born up close and personal in Sydney.
His breakthrough solo debut, Later That Day, was a huge indie seller and one of the top 5 most critically acclaimed American hip-hop records of 2003 alongside Jay-Z's The Black Album and Outkast's Love Below/Speakerboxxx.
On his last album, Everywhere At Once he revealed the full breadth and depth of his skill and vision: minimalist grooves, reimagined electro, East Bay greasy funk, devoluted punk, futurist dancehall, postmodern blues, tomorrow's slappers.
His 1997 debut with Lateef the Truth Speaker, Latyrx, sold 100,000 for his influential indie label, SoleSides. When the label was reborn as Quannum Projects, the album he helmed, Quannum Spectrum, yielded him an international hit with "I Changed My Mind". The Later That Day album, featured "Callin' Out", a monster crossover that lodged at #1 at the influential rock station LIVE 105 for 5 weeks.
Lyrics Born has been one of the most licensed hip-hop artists in the world, with placements on Diet Coke, Motorola, Nokia, and Vans commercials, TV shows such as "Entourage", "Six Feet Under", "What About Brian", "Gossip Girl", and "Gilmore Girls", films like Michael Mann's "Collateral" and Justin Lin's "Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift", and videogames by EA Sports, 2K Sports and Atari. He has had sponsorships with Puma, Adidas, Diesel, and Evisu.
As the world awaits the imminent release of the next Lyrics Born album titled As U Were (Funk 4 The Future) for now there is a brand new single titled Pushed Aside, Pulled Apart and an accompanying video (link above) to wet our LB appeities and of course there is now the chance again to experince this great vocalist and musician live with his full band.

_ _ _ KING OAF PARTIES!
_ _ _ KING OAF Parties are a new series of dance music events held by the Oxford Art Factory, which are irregular in timing, but 100% quality assured in terms of programming. In short, the Oxford Art Factory are holding these parties whenever we feel that there’s someone you absolutely need to hear.
The first event is on Friday 8th January 2010, and highlights the talents of a series of DJs from the renowned Kitsune and etcetc labels.
Scotsman
Grum is a darling of the blogosphere, with Hype Machine recently calculating him to be the second most blogged about artist in the world (second to Radiohead!). He currently devastates dance floors around the world with a mash-up of French house, Italo-disco, new-wave, and soft rock, and has an extensive list of remix credits, including most recently his remix of Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’.
Local boy
Beni is perhaps best known for his work with duo Riot In Belgium and his role as a member of beloved Sydneysiders The Bang Gang Deejays, however his latest solo project, signed to French label Kitsune has seen the warm international reception of his first single ‘My love Sees You’ as well as a string of big name remixes, and local acclaim in the form of heaving dance floors across Australia.
The third addition to the line-up is Stewart Rowell and Louis Gaston - otherwise known as the
Streetlife DJs. They have over 25 years turntable experience between them, and a blatant disregard for music genres. The music they play has been described as fitting into a niche where Soulwax meets Coldcut meets Sasha and Digweed. There really isn't a musical boundary that the Streetlife DJs won't cross. A Streetlife set is like a charming and comprehensive course in the history of dance music - in one night! DJ Magazine quoted 'We love these guys because they rock...The UK's very own 2ManyDJs!' Now that's a tag they're not too unhappy about.
The other locals set to wipe the dance floor are Sydney favourites
Lost Valentinos (playing a DJ set). The boys have worked with a formidable selection of dance music luminaries – Cut Copy, Kimberly Isaac Moyes (of The Presets), Nick Littlemore (PNAU, Empire of the Sun), Ewan Pearson and more, and their debut album ‘Cities of Gold’ has been critically acclaimed since its mid-2009 release. They describe their music as conquistadisco – and we reckon they’re well worth checking out.
Stay tuned for the next instalment in the _ _ _king OAF Parties – we promise they’ll be worth the wait!
This event is supported by Russian Standard Vodka.

THE CREAM OF AUSTRALIAN STREET ART.
This month, we were very fortunate to have Australian icon of street art, Phibs, paint the gallery wall at the Oxford Art Factory.
An interesting part of the process of an ever-changing wall, but one we don't often get the chance to share, is watching artists get their work up. We've seen a lot of different techniques, some more impressive than others - but Phibs blew away everyone who visited the venue while he was paintng. Watching him push images out of his brain and onto the wall was pretty special.
The good news for you is that our good friends from
Keep Moving popped in to tape one section of the wall going up.
Make sure you visit the gallery during April to see the finished piece.

OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS!
The Oxford Art Factory is looking for new DJs with innovative taste in music. We are on the look out for real bedroom bangers, DJs who have had little or no experience playing in front of a crowd.
We want the bedroom to come to the Oxford Art Factory, we want to witness the jams that go down in the privacy of your own homes. The Oxford Art Factory loves new music, and old music, and hearing old music played in a way that makes it feel new. We're not hung up on genres or technical wizardry, we're just after your premium jams.
If you'd like to get a gig at the OAF, please submit a LIVE mix, with track listing, and your name (and DJ name, if you have one), your email address and phone number.
You can post CDs to DEMO / OXFORD ART FACTORY, 38-46 Oxford St, Darlinghurst, NSW, 2010, or email a link to download your mix to demo@oxfordartfactory.com.
DJs who have played in other venues need not apply for this as we are only looking for fresh talent with this drive.
We may not be able to get back to everyone who submits a mix, but we promise that everything will get a listen.
