UPCOMING SHOW FLYERS + PRESS RELEASES:

TUESDAY  MARCH 18  //  GALACTIC

Featuring Chali 2Na (from Jurassic 5) & Boots Riley (from The Coup)

New Orleans-based GALACTIC started out over a decade ago as an instrumental act in the tradition of the Meters, the JB's, and Booker T. & the MG's – bands equally comfortable recording their own material or working with vocalists. Their album From the Corner to the Block (2007) grew out of GALATIC’s experiences touring with artists like the Roots, Jurassic 5, Triple Threat DJs and Gift of Gab. Although it features cameos from a ‘wish list’ of fan-favourite MCs, this isn't a typical hip-hop album.

It’s a contemporary funk record that just happens to feature hip-hop vocalists. “We never set out to make a rap record,” explains Ellman. Adds Mercurio: “We wanted to kinda modernise the New Orleans sound.” With the release of From the Corner to the Block, the five-man group – drummer Stanton Moore, bassist Robert Mercurio, saxophonist/harmonica player Ben Ellman, keyboardist Richard Vogel and guitarist Jeff Raines – reaffirms their standing as one of the funkiest outfits around. The record exposes GALATIC’s organic grooves to an urban ear, while still maintaining their essential funk aesthetic.

Australia’s very own Pivot make history as they join Warp Records esteemed family, the trailblazing trio are the first ever Australian group to ink a deal with this industry leading, innovative and internationally renowned label that has made a home for such diverse and genre leading acts as Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards Of Canada, Nightmares On Wax, Maximo Park, !!! Comprised of infamous Sydney based siblings Laurence and Richard Pike accompanied by Perth electronic wunderkind Dave Miller, Pivot’s Warp debut is due for release in the latter half of 2008 with the first single “In The Blood” dropping in May, followed by a string of live dates.

WEDNESDAY 16 APRIL  //  SVEN KONIG/SCRAMBLED HACKZ

With a blend of noise and beat boxing conspiracy, musical virtuosity and buggy software appropriation, radical plagiarism is apparent when witnessing the phenomena of Sven Konig in action at Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday April 16. Copyright infringement has never been easier than with Scrambled Hackz!

Intellectual property is a misconception deeply conflicting with the basic principles of any cultural production because it completely negates its collaborative nature. Gramophones records, magnetic tapes, vinyl records, digital samplers and computer have already liberated the samples long ago. But still - to infringe copyright - one has to decide which sample one actually wants to steal...artist comments.

The collective dis-pose-contemporary is please to announce the ‘Music to Observe Electronic Sheep ' unofficial tour by Sven Konig. The Berlin based conceptual media genius, performer and founder of Pop Modernism International Inc. mind - music - machine remixes 80's and 90's MTV aesthetics in a constant media flux.

‘Scrambled Hackz Live’ presents an orgiastic electrical storm of dysfunctional MTV aesthetics - the software producing an improvised audio-visual remix of a symphonic orchestra in real time which seduces and satiates the viewer into a frenzy of generation X nostalgia.

Sven Konig has been invited to perform in a wide diverse range of art institutions and sonic arts and new media festivals throughout Europe and North America such as FutureSonic, Manchester, UK and Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich, Switzerland to Transmediale, Berlin, IRCAM Centre Pompidou and Caroussel Du Louvre, Paris, The Distillery, Boston and Society of Art and Technology, Montreal to the Canadian Centre for Contemporary Art, Toronto among others. This will be his first visit to Australia.

THURSDAY APRIL 17  //  THE RAVEONETTES

The Raveonettes return to Australia for live shows in support of their new album LUST LUST LUST

Following up on their 2005 release, Pretty In Black, the Danish distortion duo have hit back with an album more rebellious, more sinister and most importantly – more original. Lust Lust Lust explores the devil in us all but the devil has all the best tunes.

The Raveonettes released their first EP, Whip It On, in 2002 which was recorded entirely in the key of B-flat minor, and the 2003 full-length debut, Chain Gang of Love, stuck to B-flat major-making their mark on the emerging new garage-rock scene with a flair for the dramatic. Their image was pure '50s retro-cool: lanky, dark-haired Sune Rose Wagner and six-foot blonde glamazon Sharin Foo wore black leather and sat astride motorbikes. The Danish duo doused their stripped-down songs about sex, suicide, and prostitution with noisy, fuzzed-out guitar, sweet boy-girl harmonies, and sleazy surf-punk twang.

With sonic comparisons to The Velvet Underground and The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Raveonettes bubble-gum '50s pop and nostalgic kitsch has only amplified their credibility as one of indie rock's most innovative bands.

"A dark and dirty collection of spanking electro fuzz combined with

50's surf rock that is, frankly, mindblowing"

9/10 - Rocksound Mag

"Their most engrossing album to date"

8/10 – NME

"A bleak, uncompromising masterpiece, it's their best yet"

FRIDAY 2 MAY  //  CLICK CLICK  PRESENTS THE GALVATRONS ALBUM LAUNCH

Having established their name in the Melbourne indie, rock and electro scenes with their previous projects, The Galvatrons, have spent the last 5 months cutting their teeth in the studio and on the road. Recording their debut EP (out in April) with Lindsay Gravina (Shihad, Magic Dirt), and touring non stop since their inception, The Galvatrons have been tearing it up on local and international stages with the likes of The Divinyls, Grinspoon, The Presets and You Am I. In just a couple of months their four track demo turned up in the U.K., New York and L.A, creating a hype that most bands dream of and they were the punters’ highlight at the recent Meredith Music Festival in December.

Their electrifying performance at Melbourne Big Day Out had everyone talking, and they have just returned from their London showcase where they wowed the music critics (their London show was ‘Gig of the Week’ in London Music Week). They are currently on a 30 date tour with New Zealand rock gods Shihad. With an EP out in April and their debut album due for release later in the year, 2008 looks set to be a huge year for these four boys from Melbourne.
